Reverse Engineering of Gun Turret
Although reverse engineering projects are not uncommon for us, reverse engineering a gun turret from a First World War fort is less routine. Our client is an architectural firm specializing in museums, exhibitions, and the preservation of cultural heritage. For this project, they were working on behalf of the municipality of Puurs to open the Fort of Liezele to the public. The armored turret has already been restored, but the actual cannon that was once present is missing, which makes it difficult to clearly and simply explain its function to visitors.
They turned to Caden for assistance. Based on old 2D drawings of the gun turret and a scale model, we were asked to create an accurate 3D model. From this 3D model, a simplified version would be produced to be placed in the museum space. The complete 3D model would be used to explain the turret's operation to visitors through images and screens. This was also implemented in virtual reality to fully immerse visitors in the experience.
